In the heart of Leeuwarden, I transformed a stately urban residence into a refined, modern living space while preserving its historic charm. The project focused on creating an open-plan apartment with high ceilings and a central support pillar, blending classic architecture with contemporary luxury.
The living area was reimagined as a spacious, loft-like environment, with the kitchen relocated to the rear near the terrace for better flow and natural light. Bespoke ceilings with integrated LED lighting and a cutting-edge home automation system allow for dynamic ambiance control. Custom aluminum louvered doors and a stylish room divider maintain an airy, connected feel while defining functional spaces.
The custom-designed staircase by Madelon Design serves as a striking centerpiece, elegantly solving the challenge of the original stairwell’s dimensions. Upstairs, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry room offer both comfort and sophistication. The master suite features a royal blue velvet headboard and a luxurious ensuite with a freestanding bath and walk-in closet.
Inspired by the client’s art collection, the design harmonizes warm tones and natural materials like olive wood, marble, and steel. A dedicated home office blends seamlessly into the living space, catering to the client’s new work-from-home lifestyle. Despite the challenges of remote coordination, strong communication and trust ensured a successful outcome—a personal, luxurious sanctuary that reflects modern elegance and comfort.
